Established 1935 | Lafayette, Indiana | 501(c)(4) Nonprofit Organization
Founded in 1935 during America’s growing conservation movement, the Tippecanoe County Conservation Club has served as a cornerstone of stewardship, education, and community engagement for nearly a century. Built by civic-minded outdoorsmen, educators, and conservationists in Lafayette, Indiana, the club was created to safeguard our natural resources and foster a culture of ethical outdoor recreation.
While we are still uncovering the names of our original founders, historical archives and longstanding member accounts reveal a consistent set of values passed down through generations: honor the land, teach the youth, and build community through conservation and outdoor sportsmanship.
The club quickly became a beloved fixture in the region, known for its legendary fish fries that drew hundreds for food, fellowship, and fundraising. These gatherings supported youth programming and financed early facility development. During this time, trap and skeet shooting became central to club activity, with scores regularly published in local newspapers—creating a healthy spirit of competition and camaraderie.
As membership expanded, so did our mission. This era saw the launch of youth-focused educational initiatives including archery, wilderness survival, and gun safety training. Collaborations with organizations like the Boy Scouts and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources helped create a robust platform for conservation learning. Our Youth Conservation Days became a flagship event—offering families immersive, hands-on experiences in responsible hunting, wildlife respect, and land stewardship.
Today, the club stands as a vibrant hub for conservationists, hunters, archers, families, and shooting-sports enthusiasts. We provide a welcoming environment where generations come together to enjoy target shooting, learn gun safety, and build a deeper respect for nature and responsible outdoor stewardship. We have access to certified firearms and range safety instructors who offer hands-on training, while our archery range, instruction programs, and youth archery initiatives help develop skills for all ages. Throughout the year, we host a variety of special events, including our annual Open House and community activities that bring members and neighbors together. The spirit of community, learning, and skilled marksmanship continues to guide everything we do.
The Tippecanoe County Conservation Club stands as a dynamic hub for hunters, archers, families, and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. More than just a gun or archery range, the club fosters multi-generational mentorship, environmental responsibility, and skill-building rooted in safety and respect.
We are proud to be a bridge between Lafayette’s past and its future—where the spirit of conservation is not only remembered, but actively lived.

Emphasis on preserving natural landscapes, wildlife habitats, and promoting ethical firearm and archery practices within a conservation-focused community.
